*RECAP* Ferg's "Reconstructing Misfortune" custom show @ Munky King 10/08/2010

Thanks Flight Pattern and Geoffrey Forbes we have some awesome pictures of the opening night to Ferg/Playge/Threezero's 8" Misfortune Cat custom show titled "Reconstructing Misfortune"! this show was hosted by Munky King, and had customs from some seriously talented artists including: Andrew Bell, Luke Chueh, The Beast Brothers, Frank Kozik, Chris Ryniak, MAD, Reactor88, Jason Siu, Goad, LFOP, TADO, Jon-Paul Kaiser, MCA, Brian Morris, Jason Sui, Abe Lincoln Jr, Motorbot, Scott Wilkowski and Ferg. The show was setup great and really gave great focus to each and every custom submitted to the show.

A few standouts that I personally like would have to be the amazing piece from Andrew Bell... can't go wrong with anything skull related, that stone gargoyle like piece from Chris Ryniak, and JonPaul Kaiser's awesome Karate Kid Cat! Were you unable to make it out to the opening... no worries because this exhibition runs through October 29th, so be sure to stop by and check it out!

RAJE Toys reveals the winners for series one of the 'Project Blueprint' project!

RAJE Toys just announced the winners for their 'Project Blueprint' series one... and there are some seriously rad designs in this series, and along with those designs are some seriously intricate patterns! I can't wait to see them fully produced. They say on their website that "It was a very tough job to choose winners from such quality entries and we feel guilty that we can’t make them all." No worries though as they plan on hopefully making this a yearly series which will always be open to entries from the top names and the unknowns in the industry! As you can see from the list they have a little bit of just that, some well know artists and some unknowns... and what a great mixture! Congrats goes out to the series one artists which include: Hugh Rose, Luihz Unreal, Kris Dyche, Hyaku, Igor Ventura, Cesar Zanardi, Jon Paul Kaiser, Matucha, Leonard Brizuela, Sjors Vervoort, Chris Dobson, Nahuel Cardozo Esper, Lisa Rae Hansen, and Patricio Oliver!
I hope to see this as a mini series soon.

2 Tone Series Gary Baseman

Gary Baseman has done it again with 2 great pieces in the 2 tone series.

These 2 pieces are a definite for me.

Custom Munny "Princess Byakko (White Tiger)" by KingQuan

KingQuan just sent up the first images of his custom piece for the Milk Munny Exhibit, titled "Princess Byakko (White Tiger)" and it looks awesome! The bold black against pearly white really make this Munny stand out, and with a few of KingQuan's trademark cherry blossoms... this is one beautiful custom!!

"Milk Munny" is a group show at Monorchid in Phoenix, AZ to raise breast cancer awareness. Check out their website for more information, or if you are in the Phoenix area between October 1 and 3 just stop by the gallery to see KingQuan's White Tiger in person!

Kidrobot's 2tone Dunny series

It's here! Kidrobot's 2tone Dunny Series just dropped, and, thanks to Neon Monster, we are happy to present some of the first exclusive reveals. The lineup features standard figures by Ryan Bubnis, Aaron Meshon, Huck Gee, Tad Carpenter, Steven Harrington, Chuckboy, Maxx242, Pon, Doktor A and Aya Kakeda, a mystery figure by Maxx242, figures with unknown ratios by Angry Woebots and mcbess and a rare chase by Gary Baseman.
The 2tone Dunny Series is like the Endangered Dunny Series in that it is in limited release and available only through select Kidrobot resellers. Although you can see that not all of the Dunnys in this series follow the strict definition of "2tone," Neon Monster told us that the case they opened contained every figure listed except the Huck standard and the Baseman chase. Not a bad ratio! Hop over to their blog to see photos of all their 2tone Dunny pulls.
Our stock will be arriving late next week so watch this space for more details.

PHU's "Rebel" Yoka vector turnarounds...

Last but not least in the line of production Yoka's set to be released at this years NYCC 2010 via the MyPlasticHeart booth #2879 for $15 each, is none other than PHU as he brings his futuristic neo-nuclear designs to this platform toy. The color pallet is not very dynamic as it's grayscale, but what it lacks in color it really makes up in design as this figure looks great! adFunture did another stellar job on this piece and a huge congrats goes out to PHU for being recognized and getting in on this fierce threesome along with Mortorbot and Reactor-88!

"Roadkill Motorcycle Club" custom by Hugh Rose

We have been dazzled with custom from Hugh Rose before, but instead of his normal affair we are familiar with, Hugh took a new approach to customizing his latest Munny commission as he dug a little deep into the dark side of his mind to created the "Roadkill Motorcycle Club" custom. This figure is 100% awesome, from the color pallet used to the amazing detailing of line work and textures throughout the entire piece... really cool! This was commissioned by CTU member Matt A. and if your looking for a sick custom, hit up Hugh via mail.to:hrose6161@hotmail.co.uk as he is available to do your bidding :-)

Sket One's custom 8" Bacon Swine Flu Edition

Now this is some great news... artist Sket One does a fantastic job of creating a character and transferring it to different platforms... and that is exactly what he has done with his "Bacon" character. First seen on a 3" Dunny, then on a 3" Bic Buddy, and hopefully soon a 5" MAD*l this character has some charisma, and now this Friday, March 12th, 2010 at 12PM PST, Sket One will be releasing an edition of 10, 8" custom "Swine Flu Edition' Dunny's! These awfully gory customs come decked out in scrubs, and a blood filled syringe. Each is signed, numbered and will retail for $475 at Sket's Big Cartel Store HERE... these are great, that syringe is a nice touch for sure!

Gizmo gets the MEGA treatment...

Artist Kristy Anne Ligones has been featured on here before where she tackled the 8" Dubai based platform MEGA figure... and well, she did it again on the same platform, as she created a really cool custom of Gizmo from Gremlins! She also added a surprise Lil' Gremlin or Mogwai in his bag... really great use of this platform and another stellar custom from Kristy!

Charming Custom Skumbo By Task One

For artist Task One, no vinyl is off limits. Here, he has taken Tristan Eaton’s 2005 character, Skumbo and created an emotional custom for a very special friend entitled, To Be Named. Check out Task One’s website for more amazing one of a kind art toys.

Custom 10" Teddy Troop from Rsin

Rsin continues to wow us all with his amazing customs. He made this rad Teddy Troop for a fellow KidRobot forum boardie to go in their kids nursery/bed room... LUCKY kid!!!! Rsin says that he "Wasn't given anything specific to do, except make it kinda panda in the whisper style. I wanted to use bright colors and also make it a bit shinny, both things I know young children are drawn too." So he took that direction and ran with it and sculpted out the face, stomach, and added some wicked looking ears then he added his patented whisper face to both the helmet and the face. The colors that Rsin uses really make the figures pop... and each one he completes they get tighter and tighter... amazing! Hit up his Flickr HERE for more pics including a dope 20" custom Van Orlax!!!

New YORKA... 3 new Yoka designs by Motorbot, Reactor88, and PHU for NYCC 2010

adFunture just released images of 3 awesome new production Yoka's by 3 very deserving artists that have been at the grind doing customs for years now, so these are very well deserved. First up is Motorbot as he give us his classic monster magic, which translated very well over to this platform. Next up is Reactor88's sweet tribal inspired pattern design, as well PHU's neo-futuristic "Rebel Pilot" inspired Yoka. All three of these are set to be released at this year's NYCC... more details as they roll in, but congrats to all 3 of these artists once again!

Cris Rose's Custom Rumble Stolen @ DragonCon 2010

Custom MADL Has Style

Found this great custom 6 inch vinyl MAD L toy by Zdenek55. What attracts me to the toy is its really expressive face and the base paint job(not the inkwork) that makes for a nice textured look that almost makes it look like its madde out of wood rather than plastic.

The artist has been featured at The Don O'Melveny Gallery In Los Angeles (2006), and at The THINKSPACE Gallery (2007), Phantom Gallery (2007), The Sundance Film Festival, The L.A. Biscuit Lofts Art Show (2007), Monkeyhouse Toys (2007, 2008) Gallery Hangar 1018 (2007), AlphaCult (2007) and APW NYC (2008), Gnosis Gallery (2008).

Check this great piece , You can pick him up for $75 if you are quick.

Kidrobot and Mcdonalds Toys? Great Concept Fun

Here's a signature image I saw on the Kidrobot forums that made me laugh. I believe it's a concept, because it says "It's only a matter of time". I wouldn't be surprised either, and hey I might even pick them up. Or maybe they'll be included in my happy meal? Sweet. Spotted on user Mistuh_T's signature.

Toy2R keeps the Qee news rollin as they have just revealed 3 more new designs from their upcoming Skelanimals Qee series 1! Today we are getting a glimpse at designs by Reactor 88, Jim Koch, and Julie West... which all have distinct charasterics that we have come to know from each of these designers! I really like the Totem designs from Reactor as this little figure captures his style so well, and Jim's Stitch-n-skull design is so fitting as well as Julie's clean lines and feminine touch! Keep your eyes peeled for more designs from other artist in this series includiug: Jon Paul Kaiser, Voltaire, Lunabee, and Chauskoskis!

For the first time, Kidrobot will be getting down this year in The Cultyard at New York Comic Con. We will be joining our vinyl allies STRANGEco, Mimobot, Tokidoki, Toy Qube, Toy Tokyo and many others in the expansion of our vinyl art community at NYCC. I really would love to be there !
